Thomas Campbell on Oils in the Diet
Hi folks, Tim/FacelessFatloss here, live on a Saturday afternoon, dreary Saturday miserable eastern time cloudy drizzle-ly yucky day…
😉
I was able to spend some time with Thomas Campbell this week discussing he and his father’s book The China Study. I wanted to report on one aspect in particular that I had already found to be particularly beneficial, relating to oils in the diet and pain.
If you are unfamiliar with his book, it can be found here:
I will soon present a viewpoint that challenges some of the work done in the China Study, just to present an unbiased stance and to widen your scope on what others are doing that produce results for themselves. Between this book and another’s opinion of it, there is some controversy. All that means is that we take it in, learn from it, and use our intuition to determine which path may suit us best.
That said, there is one primary piece of info that I want everyone to take into serious consideration, should they be dealing with any kind of pain/discomfort. In my case, this info applied directly to a joint/arthritic issue, and I’ve also witnessed it possibly having a side benefit in part relieving psoriasis.
We don’t understand all of the mechanisms of these conditions. The changes in diet may be responsible for an array of benefits that are barely even explored in the research in these areas.
But results are results, and that is all that matters. Whatever WORKS, is the most important. If we experience benefits, we should pass them on for others to have the opportunity to experience the same.
The book is basically about straight-up veganism. Not a raw food version, but a cooked version. I will save that topic, raw vs cooked, for another time. For now, my personal opinion is that there are benefits of both. And I feel strongly about that, from the standpoint of certain nutrients actually being released through cooking (where others like enzymes are of course destroyed) and from an eastern medicine standpoint, the concept of “Fire Qi” being incorporated into cooked foods. Having had tremendous results with medical issues after seeing an eastern medical practitioner, I was convinced there is something special about that practice that goes beyond western medicine’s understanding.
That said, a primary focus of mine when I was dealing with pain was to reduce and virtually eliminate fats…specifically oils…from the diet.
I will not go into GMO or partially hydrogenated issues here. Too large a topic. Instead, I’m making a simple blanket statement: Elimination of all oils everywhere for a time, to test its affect on pain in the body, is a way-worthwhile experiment. Cardio vascular benefits alone can be huge, but not many people would associate pain conditions with this part of the diet. Fats play a huge role with candida as well, and their reproductive cycle, but the effects on oils ability to overall “gum up” the system seem to go beyond what we used to understand.
And I would love to see sufferers of Fibromyalgia give oil elimination/fat reduction in their diets a try.
Did everyone hear about Venus Williams suffering from a somewhat rare pain-related condition throughout her body in the recent past? To the point where she could no longer play tennis? Did you hear what she did to get herself back to where she is?
She went on a largely raw foods-based diet. And look at how much better she is doing.
I obtained most of my fats either from plant-based foods (yes, there is a small amount available in a plant-based diet), avacados, just a little bit of coconut, and even my dark chocolate which is of course loaded with fat. Nuts and avacados are a huge source, but most experts agree nuts need to be eliminated during times of diet restrictions for pain.
Meats are a source of fats if you are a meat-eater, so be conscious of that; but for me, I found a focus on oils to be where the most results came. And I do not eat a large amount of meat, so it did not seem to be as much of an issue. My meat-eating has also always been very selective, with only limited choices.
Just wanted to pass this along. This is a part of my pending Over-40 program, since a lot of over-40-ers tend to deal with more of these sorts of issues.
My new program will also feature a similar grand shift in dietary choices…my own version of “dietary cycling”…that I’m introducing in this new program, to be completed next month.
I will also be making some connections with the best of the best in the raw food world to offer alternatives for you to explore as well. It is an expansion that I have long looked forward to and am excited to participate in.
Love, Happiness, Health and Peace…………….T
