Alkaline Foods Misunderstood:

The acid-alkaline balance of the body remains somewhat controversial, some sides saying that there is outright “no such thing” as an optimal way to “alkalize” the body in such a way that benefits are provided.  These opinions stem from the notion that the body self-regulates its acid-alkaline balance on its own.  When the pH balance is discussed, for the most part the *blood’s* pH is what is being referred to, since it’s important it stays within a narrow range leaning towards a more base, or alkaline state.

Those who believe this issue is all “bunk” will say that respiration and kidney activity maintains this balance, and that there really is no such thing as “acidosis” or “alkalosis” due to an allegedly poor diet.

In our opinion, it’s simply a matter of taking in healthy foods for the sake of the alkaline-forming mineral content that benefits us *regardless* of the validity of the acid-alkaline controversy.

The green foods, well known as popular alkaline-forming foods, are such because of their base-mineral content, mainly of magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium and iron.  In their whole-food form, taken in either as foods or a whole food supplement, can only serve to benefit us, since it’s pretty much impossible to “overdose” on foods and their nutrition.

When we couple this with the notion that the mineral content of our food supply has diminished over the past several decades due to exploitative farming practices, it raises the question as to whether we are possibly getting *enough* of these macr0-mineral nutrients in our bodies…and if not, what are the consequences of NOT having enough of these vital components to the condition of our overall health.

Our answer: green smoothies almost daily, occasional green juicing monitoring the sugar content, green supplements such as from Dr. Webster that we reference elsewhere on this site, and crystal salt in our clean spring water for a full spectrum of daily macro and micro minerals…all of which give us a balanced, natural nutritional profile that we know our bodies will understand and be able to use.
